The Department of Psychology, Fathima Arts and Science College, Moothedam, organised COGNOSIA 2K25 on 31st January 2025, featuring exhibitions, games, and workshops. The event was inaugurated by DIET Principal Dr. Babu Varghese, with a presidential address by Fr. Dr. Shibin P. James. The exhibition showcased psychology’s origins, branches, forensic concepts, counselling room setup, psychological movies, and interactive experiments. Psy Games tested cognitive skills, including optical illusions, mental balance, and concentration. A workshop on psychology’s role in daily life was conducted for department students, making the fest a resounding success.
On 27th July 2024, the second and third-year students of the Psychology Department, accompanied by three faculty members, visited the Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (IMHANS), Kozhikode. The visit was guided by Clinical Psychologist Sonu S. Dev, who provided valuable insights into the institution's practices. Students had the opportunity to explore the state-of-the-art Neuroscience Lab and gain hands-on exposure to various therapeutic techniques, including Occupational Therapy. The visit enriched their understanding of clinical psychology and advanced therapeutic interventions, making it a highly informative and impactful experience.
The Department of Psychology organized a program on 21 June 2024 in the New General Hall, beginning with a welcome speech by student Missila C.P. Fr. Varghese Kaniyamparabil inaugurated the program, followed by a presidential address by Assistant Professor Neethu K. Yogacharya Sudheesh P.S. led the session "Yoga for Self & Society: An Orientation and Practice Session." Felicitations were delivered by Satheeshan T.K., Assistant Professor of Malayalam and College Staff Secretary. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor Neethu M.
The Department of Psychology at Fathima Arts and Science College, Moothedam, organized an AIDS Day Red Ribbon Campaign to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. Students distributed red ribbons to faculty, staff, and the public at Edakkara Bus Stand while displaying awareness placards and posters. The program was led by HoD Dr. Vincent E.W. and Assistant Professors Neethu K. and Neethu M.
Fathima Arts and Science College, Moothedam, in collaboration with AIRIO, organized an international seminar on 5th-6th November 2022 on "Global Warming vs. Alternate Development Strategies." Sessions were led by eminent scholars, including Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thomas, Dr. V. Raghu, Dr. Nayeem Mullungal, Dr. Sukumaran Nair, and others. Topics covered climate crisis, health vs. environmental hazards, and technology in education. Thirteen psychology students attended and received participation certificates. The seminar provided valuable insights and an opportunity to engage with distinguished experts.
On 27 July 2023, second-year psychology students from Fathima Arts and Science College, Moothedam, visited Wayanad Louise Mount Mental Health Care Hospital. The visit provided insights into various mental illnesses and the functioning of different departments. A total of 24 students, accompanied by Dr. Vincent E. W. (Head of the Psychology Department) and faculty members Neethu K. and Neethu M., participated in the program. Sessions were conducted by Senior Clinical Psychologist Linjo and Psychologist Anvin.
On 22 February 2023, the Psychology Department of Fatima Arts and Science College, in collaboration with the KET Emergency Team, organized a Hair Donation Campaign to support cancer patients. The event was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Raveendran Pillai, with Vice-Principal Fr. Ajeesh T. Kuriyan delivering the felicitation. A total of 12 students and 2 staff members participated, and donated hair was received by the KET Emergency Team. Certificates were distributed to the donors. The program was led by Dr. E. W. Vincent (Head of the Psychology Department), along with faculty members Neethu K. and Neethu M.
On 3-12-2022, the Psychology Department of Fatima Arts and Science College conducted a training program at Bhathania Disability School, Vadapuram to nurture the creativity of differently-abled children. Mother Superior Sr. Akshaya inaugurated the event, with Dr. Vincent (HoD), Neethu K., and Neethu M. leading the program. Second-year students conducted interviews on stigma and struggles, followed by art performances and training sessions. The event concluded with a shared lunch.
The Psychology Department organized a visit to Poojapura Central Jail, Thiruvananthapuram, on 23rd September 2022. Led by Dr. Vincent E. W. (HoD), Neethu K., and Neethu M., 26 students from the 2nd and 3rd-year psychology batches participated. The journey began on 22nd September evening, with an overnight stay at Mar Ivanios College before reaching the jail at 10:30 AM. Jail Superintendent Satyaraj, Joint Superintendent Sajeev Kumar, and C.I. Sunil Kumar provided insights into the jail's operations, including the canteen, wards, worship places, remand ward, gardens, library, security systems, and execution area
The B.Sc. Psychology Department conducted an orientation program for first-year students on 19th September 2022 in the psychology lab. Principal Dr. Raveedran Pillai and Tr. Geevarghese Madathil were the chief guests. The program included an introduction by Fidha Shenn, an address on college mission and lab rules by Shahana, and insights on psychology scope and syllabus by Rashe and Nishfa. Students also presented brief profiles of key psychologists. Entertainment sessions, games, and a drama on misconceptions in psychology were conducted. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Elina and remarks from HoD Dr. Vincent E.W
